Main details
- Wiki title: Planet JFX
- Content language: en
Description
What will this wiki be about? What sort of articles will be included?
- Open-source, community-driven documentation for the new JavaFX platform. It will be a grassroots way to build up a knowledge base for a very new (and sparsely documented) platform. Topics could include tips and tricks, how-to's, technical gotchas, code samples, tutorials, and the inevitable workarounds.
Community
Who will edit this wiki? Is there already a community around this topic? How will you promote the wiki to ensure at least 20 people join? Give links to forums on this topic if you know of any.
- http://openjfx.org has just opened to support Sun's JavaFX initiative. The platform itself is open source, but the documentation is static. Sun won't open the java.net wiki to the community because of legal/control issues. This hampers early adopters who are trying to use a very alpha product and share what they are learning with each other.
- The Planet JFX wiki would allow anyone using JavaFX to learn from each other and contribute toward a valuable knowledge base. The creator of JFX has given his blessing for an off-site wiki where anybody can contribute. He has also said he will announce this wiki once we are up and running.
Additional Information
Add any information that supports why this wiki should exist. Include links to Wikipedia articles on this topic or to other websites that show this is a popular topic.
- Sun's announcement of JavaFX is here: http://www.infoworld.com/article/07/05/07/javafx-javaone_1.html
- I would also like to point http://planetJFX.org to the wiki. Can the hosting setup be arranged so that will work instead of planetjfx.wikia.com?
Categories
Which categories should this wiki be in? For example, sports, or arts, or hobbies? Look through the Wikia categories for ideas. Your wiki can be in more than one category. Put them in Category:Uncategorized, removing the colon ":" and replacing "Uncategorized" with the actual category name.

Support Pforhan 20:50, 14 May 2007 (UTC) : This would be a great addition. Sun is pushing big on JavaFX. The community needs to rise to meet it.

Support tobrien 15 May 2007 (UTC) : Sun has two choices, damn JavaFX to the unusable interface that is java.net or use a technology that has proven itself as the worlds most capable collaboration platform. The qualityof the tools used to document JavaFX is going to have a dramatic effect on the documentation for JavaFX. The documentation of JavaFX in turn has a dramatic effect on the quality and cohesion of the user community. Just see Maven as an example of what happens to software when there is an absence of good documentation.
