[edit] Database dump
Do you or any administrators on http://www.guildwiki.fr have access to the database dump? G.He(Talk!) 07:07, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- No. That's was really a problem. But i've manage to save most of the pages on one of my locals wikis (installed with Wamp) using the XML export page in Special:Export. I've imported them back because i'm admin in my locals wikis.
- OK. I could dump my database... But, some namespace would not be there... And, my local thing is older... Users have modified so much pages, couldn't keep up with them. So, i think my local saves should not be used unless the hosting of guildwiki.fr has come to an end.
- But, we could also use my dump (if possible) and then double-check more recent pages on guildwiki.fr
- I really wonder what happened with our only administrator, Elenna. Last heard of, she was departing for Dubai (for work). That was about six month ago when she move the wiki to a new hosting. We might have six month to save our pages. Who know ? How can we know when does domain are supposed to expire ?
- I have a domain (synaptique.ca) and altough it's not registered directly to me, i can easily find it's expiration date on registar sites. But, did not find it for guildwiki.fr
- Sorry for some bad english. And thanks for wanting to help. Really apreciated. --TulipVorlax 07:45, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- One more thing : i did not save the images on the old guildwiki.fr because images files with special caracthers like "éèûëà" did not "upload" well in my local installation. Always wondered why. I can give more info about this if needed. --TulipVorlax 08:22, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- After thinking it over, i dont think we could copy my local database because all edits in my local wiki belong to me. It would be wiser to have a new wiki up and running and putting a big warning so that people move their own thins, if they have relicensed them (see bottom of page). What do you think ? --TulipVorlax 07:55, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] License
What is the license for the content at http://www.guildwiki.fr? Are they licensed under the GFDL or something else? G.He(Talk!) 22:17, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- I think that Elenna did not choose any specific license. But, i know that the software ask for one when we set it up (i have 3 wikis on a local computer). I really don't know. The page about copyrights is empty : http://www.guildwiki.fr/index.php/Guildwiki:Copyright
- Elenna was not really a good admin but wasn't her fault at all. If only she had a little more free time... Me, i've got plenty of free time 'cause i have no work.
- Some users of guildwiki.fr have move to http://gwiki.fr and already began to copy our pages there. We don't mind because they do things so diffrently and their wiki is heavily modified (and somehow a little buggy).
- But for some of us, it was like a knife in the back. That's why i'm actively trying to find a way to at least preserve our work that has higher standards than what they do at gwiki.fr
- I really dont think it will be of any trouble to reuse things from guildwiki.fr and if needed, we can put a link on every page stating it's source.
- If you need any more or other infos, just ask. --TulipVorlax 00:19, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- (By the way, i live in Montréal, Canada. It's at -5GMT so it might have some delai in response from time to time)
[edit] New license
I'm now asking every contributors that don't mind to relicense theirs contributions under GFLD : http://www.guildwiki.fr/index.php/Guildwiki:Passer_%C3%A0_GFDL
Already done it myself on my user page of guildwiki.fr (same username). I hope it will help. But images (screen captures) can't be used in any other way than Fair Use, exept for the one we (or anybody from the community) made ourselves (like the professions icon (made by LordBiro of the original GuildWiki) and the lys icon i made).
